When you have an idea of where your homeschool journey is supposed to go, the joy of finding a place to fill in those things you need help with, is so rewarding.
SchoolhouseTeachers.com, is a site that was created by The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. Filled with lessons by over 20 teachers, Schoolhouse Teachers.com contains curriculum for any grade, from PreK through high school grades. It is unusual in that it can be used as a stand alone, or as an enhancement for whatever curriculum your family is already using. This is the approach that I was looking for.
SchoolhouseTeachers.com takes all of the guesswork out of lesson planning. No matter what grade you are teaching , there are dozens of choices available, from traditional classes like history and math, to non traditional like guitar! My 8th grade son has taken guitar for 3 years, and he gave the guitar lessons a thumbs up.
When I first found the site, the one thing that got my attention, was the course checklist. This is a printable monthly chart, showing the lessons for the month. For my 4th grade visual learner, it helps for him to see how far he has come, especially when he is struggling.
My two youngest are roughly PreK and K. They need engaging activities to do while listening in to the older children’s lesson. The lapbook section is wonderful for this. We are currently working on the Christmas in the Barn lapbook. It’s sweet, and just enough work to keep them busy-yet they can still hum along with the Latin chants they are hearing.
I have been using this site for two weeks, and have found it useful in so many ways. I’m pleased to be able to share it with you as my first official review for the Schoolhouse Review Crew for 2013.
